AMERICAN DECLARATION ON THE RIGHTS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES
(Adopted at the third plenary session, held on June 15, 2016)

The Ninth Session of the UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples took place from the 11th to 15th of July 2016 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. At the end of this session the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples released a study which focused on the right to health for Indigenous Peoples.

Cultural Survival wishes to express our concern over this year’s election process for the current slate of members of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. More specifically, we are concerned with the non-appointment of Joan Carling as the Indigenous-nominated member from Asia, despite her nomination by Indigenous Peoples organizations in the region.
