Aura Marina Radio Novela
Meet Aura Marina, who lives with family in a village in the mountains of Guatemala. She is the Mayan heroine of the radionovela (soap opera) “Aura Marina,” broadcast on 250 community radio stations – thanks to Cultural Survival’s Guatemala Radio Project. The program aims to inform Guatemala’s indigenous majority about their rights and responsibilities as citizens of a new democracy.

Coffee Talk
Funded by Dean’s Beans, a fair-trade, organic coffee company, this program focuses on getting coffee farmers information on coffee varieties, prices, fair trade, and organic production.

Funded by La Sociedad San Martin de Porres, Houston, Texas, this program focuses on educating the public about simple methods such as washing hands, using mosquito nets, and boiling water to improve health.

Public Service Announcement Promoting Fair Elections: “Digamos no a los acarreos!”
The elections advertisement urges Guatemalans to realize the power of their vote. It encourages citizens to refuse gifts of food and entertainment in exchange for attending a rally in support of a certain candidate. The advertisement goes on to urge citizens to say no to those who pressure them with threats to vote for a certain candidates. Instead, it says, Guatemalans should inform themselves about the candidates and use their vote wisely, recognizing their power of decision.
