According to EU stipulations, the Turkish government will have to address Kurdish issues in its address to the EU on March 19 in order to accede to membership status. The major issues currently under debate within Turkey concern the government’s repression of Kurdish political parties and language rights, and the recent death sentence handed down to imprisoned Kurdistan Workers Party leader Abdullah Ocalan.
